March 28, 2013 phunter

On February 20, 2013, DC LeadingAge members joined the Green House team to brief attendees on the national and local efforts to expand this innovative, small house model of long-term care. Green Houses are operating around the country with 146 homes currently open and over a hundred more in development. The District’s first Green House project is a collaborative effort between LeadingAge DC members Stoddard Baptist Home and NCBA, National Caucus & Center on Black Aged, and should break ground soon. Two additional Green House projects for DC are in the planning stages.

At the briefing were Dr. Larry Minnix, LeadingAge President & CEO and Mr. Robert Jenkens, Managing Director for Aging and Independence at NCB Capital Impact. Mr. Ron Yoder, CEO of Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community and a LeadingAge member outlined his efforts to build the first Green House Project in Virginia and how he and his board came to the decision to pursue the model.
