2015 LeadingAge DC Annual Meeting – Registration Opening August 6th, 2015
The 2015 LeadingAge DC Annual Meeting will be held on September 30, 2015. Continue to check the LeadingAge DC website for updates. Sponsorship Opportunities are still available. This year’s highlights include:

  • 9 unique breakout sessions with topics including: Viritual Senior Centers, Person Centered Care, Cognitive Health, Technology, Policy Updates and more.
  • A two part Board Engagement session.
  • Key Note Speaker – Christie Hinrichs, President and CEO of Tabitha Health Care, will challenge the “current one size fits all” health care system
  • Closing Speaker – Larry Minnix, President and CEO, LeadingAge

  • Carroll Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation
    Carroll Manor is a state-of-the-art skilled nursing center providing short-term and long-term medical, nursing, and rehabilitation services. Accredited by The Joint Commission and Medicare/Medicaid certified, the center has private and shared accommodations available for up to 252 residents. Carroll Manor offers Dementia Care, Intermediate Care, Skilled Care and Sub-acute care.
  • Washington Center for Aging
    Washington Center for Aging Services, located in Northeast DC, is a community with a great history of providing care to over 200 seniors in Washington, DC.

LeadingAge DC, DC Board of Long Term Care Administrators and DC Health Care Association Host Preceptor Training
Training the future generation of long term care administrators is critical for the aging services industry. Over sixteen Administrators from the District of Columbia came together on July 29th to complete a Preceptor Training which will assist them in becoming Certified Preceptors in the District of Columbia. To become a Nursing Home Administrator in the District of Columbia, an individual must complete an Administrator-in-Training program under the guidance of a certified preceptor. District of Columbia Update

  • Conflict Free Case Management. On Friday, July 10, DHCF’s Conflict-Free Case Management Services Notice of Emergency and Proposed Rulemaking was published in the DC Register.
  • DHCD to Release Request for Proposals on Affordable Housing Projects DHCD and partner agencies will release a Request for Proposals (RFP) on July 29 and will hold a kick-off meeting on July 30. Applications must be submitted online and will be due October 5.
  • UDC Elder Law Project Establishment Amendment Act of 2015. This bill clarifies the requirements of providing legal representation to low income persons and to income eligible senior citizens through the training of law students at the University of the District of Columbia Law School. income-eligible seniors will gain access to free legal assistance by supervised law students at the University of the District of Columbia.
  • Financial Exploitation of Vulnerable Adults Amendment Act of 2015 Introduced on July 14, 2015, by Councilmembers Bonds, Evans, Nadeau, Grosso, Allen, Orange, Todd, and Silverman, the act redefines vulnerable adults to include persons aged 65 and over and establishes financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
  • Health Care Decisions Act of 2015. Currently under Council Review is the Health Care Decisions Act of 2015. If passed, this legislation would establish a MOST Form to capture patients’ wishes for medical intervention. This is similar to the MOLST form currently being utilized in Maryland. Federal Update

  • LeadingAge 5-Star analysis for nursing homes. The recent Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) changes to the Nursing Home Compare 5-Star Quality Rating System report caused many organizations to move down in star ratings without a detailed explanation of why.

 


Education and Resources

  • LeadingAge hosts OSHA webinar. LeadingAge (national) is hosting OSHA Compliance: Preventing Costly Citations, a webinar on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2:00-3:00 p.m. Experienced workplace health and safety attorneys will provide inside knowledge to help you be prepared for investigations. Cost is $99. Register online.
  • Governing for Strategic Success. August 4 -5, 2015 will be the last opportunity to participate in the Governance session led by renowned governance speaker and author Jamie Orlikoff.
  • QuickCast: What LeadingAge Members Need to Know about LGBT Aging. In this 13-minute educational video, Tim R. Johnston, manager of education and training with SAGE, discusses the terms and historical context for why LGBT inclusion is important as well as best practices, training opportunities and resources so that LeadingAge members can create an inclusive environment for their residents, clients, participants and staff.
