Aaron M. Rulnick, Managing Principal, HJ Sims
Aaron Rulnick serves as co-leader of HJ Sims’ banking team and serves on the firm’s Executive Operating Committee and Board of Directors. In his nearly 30 years of experience in the senior living field, Aaron has financed over $7 billion for the development, expansion, acquisition, divestiture and refinancing of nursing homes, life plan communities, senior housing and assisted living facilities for both not-for-profit and for-profit clients. Aaron frequently speaks on a variety of topics related to senior living finance and strategic organizational issues at state and national conferences, as well as to Board and resident groups of senior living organizations. A past member of the Financial Advisory Panel of CARF-CCAC, he currently serves on the Board of Governors and Finance Committee of the Charles E. Smith Life Communities in Rockville, MD and is Chair of their Housing Boards.
Jeff Sands, Managing Principal/General Counsel
Jeff joined HJ Sims in 1995 after four years in commercial banking. More than 11 years of experience in financing senior living communities. Responsible for financing more than $2 billion of senior living projects. Jeff serves on Sims’ Management Committee and as Treasurer of the Board of Directors for a community-based organization committed to supporting those living and disability. Previously he served as Chairman of the firm’s Long-Term Care Practice Group and on the Legal Committee of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. While in private practice, Jeff was regularly listed in Best Lawyers in the United States as a health care expert. At Sims, Jeff has worked with both proprietary and not-for-profit clients on a variety of financings. He supervised the successful development of the MatchCap Program, which raises equity money to fund pre-finance costs of start-up CCRCs.
Anthony Luzzi, President, Sims Mortgage Funding, Inc.
Anthony has over 35 years of experience with FHA mortgage insurance programs and completed approximately 190 FHA-insured transactions totaling over $2.04 billion for skilled nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals and multifamily and senior housing communities. He was a longstanding member of the Executive Committee of the Committee on Healthcare Financing, a Washington, D.C.- based coalition of mortgage and investment bankers, financial advisors and law firms that specialize in FHA’s Section 232 and 242 programs for healthcare, senior housing and hospital facilities. He also serviced as the Vice Chairperson of the FHA Committee for the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). He received his BA degree in History, magna cum laude, from Saint Peter’s College in New Jersey and a Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in Financial Management from New York University.
