The LeadingAge DC & Maryland

Leadership Academy

 

The LeadingAge DC and Maryland Leadership Academy is a year -long leadership program designed to enhance the leadership skills of nonprofit aging services leaders in the DC and Maryland region. During the year, Fellows are guided through graduate level curriculum which examines the traits of successful leaders, develops leadership competencies, and expands knowledge in the field of aging services, while establishing strong bonds with peers from other LeadingAge members. The DC/Maryland Academy is modeled after the highly successful LeadingAge national Leadership Academy.

Learning Schedule

Participants will engage in five face-to-face learning experiences that include visits to member communities, in-depth conversations with aging services leaders and guided exploration of leadership styles through exercises and readings.

The sessions (1 – 2 days each) for the 2016-2017 LeadingAge DC and Maryland Leadership Academy are as follows:

  • April, 2016
  • July, 2016
  • November, 2016
  • March, 2016 – LeadingAge PEAK in Washington, DC

Who Should Apply

People employed by a LeadingAge DC or Maryland not-for-profit member, irrespective of clinical or managerial experience or discipline. Leadership potential within one’s organization is far more important than specific job title. The Academy’s focus is on developing aging services leaders. More than one employee from an organization may apply, but only one person from an organization will be chosen.

All applications will be reviewed and we will assemble a class of up to twelve Fellows, diverse in life experiences, leadership roles, geography, type of organization, and other characteristics.

People interested in supervisory or managerial skills and knowledge should refer to the Emerging Leaders Series offered by Leading Age Maryland.

 

Commitment

  • Upon applying, the applicant and sponsoring organization must sign a commitment letter.
  • Upon acceptance, a $1500 tuition payment (non‐refundable and non -transferable) is required from each LeadingAge DC/Maryland Fellow organization.
  • Tuition includes meeting materials and meals provided during sessions. Lodging and travel expenses are to be incurred by the member community. Fellows are required to attend all in -person sessions, complete all required projects, assignments and readings.
