DC Assisted Living Regulations and Bill Update

August 1, 2018 LeadingAge DC Executive Director

The DC Health call on Wednesday July 25, 2018 clarified a few concerns regarding the status of Assisted Living Regulation and implementation. In summary:

  • The Assisted Living (Emergency Regs), will become effective once they are signed by Dr. Nesbitt. Sharon Mebane and her team anticipate this will occur sometime in August.
    • Sharon Mebane and Carmen Johnson indicated that they did not expect every AL to comply with the emergency regulations immediately. However, they expect that each AL community can demonstrate their plan to come into compliance
    • Sharon Mebane and team will coordinate future conference calls and trainings to assist with providers with compliance concerns and issues.
  • The proposed Assisted Living Regulations will be published for comment simultaneously and will follow the standard rule making process
  • The DC Council Health Committee has indicated that they will review the published regulations prior to proceeding with any legislation.
