Today we utilize technology in virtually every facet of our lives. We’re connected 24/7 to the world at large through email, Skype, smartphones, laptops, tablets and a myriad of other applications and devices. Yet many older adults, particularly those individuals living with dementia, have been left out of the technological revolution that’s taking place. Why must we change this? As gerontechnology becomes more ubiquitous, an increasing number of senior living organizations are making person-based technologies—that focus on the needs and preferences of older adults—an integral part of their culture change initiatives with transformative results. Among the best practices that have been identified by the early adopters is the successful implement person-based technology, which requires buy in from staff, families, and the residents themselves.
